Halo 4 Spartan Ops Weekly Challenges Guide - 11/9/12

Please subscribe above this and/or follow me on twitter! Have any ideas or comments about the challenges? Post them down below!

The Challenges:
Core Legend - Complete Core in Departure on Legendary difficulty. - 1500 XP
Core is the final mission of the Departure Episode of Season 1. I hesitate, and I do mean hesitate, to call this the most difficult one, but I did die the most doing it. Remember that Spartan Ops uses the loadouts from multiplayer (War Games) so outfit your character accordingly. Core has Covenant and Promethean forces that you must face so the Light Rifle is not a bad choice if you have it unlocked. In terms of Armor Abilities, Hologram is decently useful, in my opinion, if you can successfully trick the Knights with it and score assassinations.

Shield Break! - Kill 70 Jackals. - 1500 XP
This is the only one where I had to go back and get kills because Jackals are very sparse in the first Episode of Season 1. The second mission "Sniper Valley" has the most Jackals and you will likely need to replay it once or twice to get seventy kills. Now, there are two variants of Jackals (Marksman and Shielded) and both count for this challenge, regardless of what the challenge name indicates. On the higher difficulties, any Jackal with a Beam Rifle can kill you in two shot so take them out on the walkways before they get you. For Shielded Jackals, shoot the notch of the shield to get them to lower it and them pop them in the head.

I Am The 99 Percent - Kill 40 Elites. - 1750 XP
Elites are always difficult to kill, though Promethean Knights are now the hardest enemies you will face. For this challenge, asking you to kill forty of them, you can find Elites in all but Chapters Three and Four of the episode Departure. Precision weapons are best, especially the Sniper and the Beam Rifle. Most Covenant vehicles (Wraith, Banshee, and Ghost) are piloted by Elites so destroying those will rack up the Elite kills. You will not get this done in a single chapter, but playing through two will likely get it done.

Creeping 'N Crawling - Kill 80 Crawlers. - 1250 XP
Crawlers are actually exceedingly annoying in Spartan Ops. There are about three different variants but, in large numbers, they can be quite deadly (more so then Grunts). The most troublesome is a variant that has a Binary Rifle so look at for those and hide when they are about to shoot. Crawlers are extremely prominent on Chapters Three and Four and briefly in Chapter Five. Now Watchers (the flying Prometheans) will spawn Crawlers so if you are trying to farm kills, leave the Watchers alone. However, you do not need to farm the kills as there are more than enough Crawlers for you to hit eighty in the Episode (at least solo).

Episode of Legend - Complete all missions in Departure on Legendary difficulty. - 3000 XP
Most people will probably see that this says Legendary difficulty and go "Fuck that" but fear not because you seem to have unlimited lives. The first Episode, entitled "Departure" has five chapters that all take about twenty or thirty minutes to go through Solo on Legendary. You do not need to do them solo for this challenge, but difficulty will scale upwards if you have multiple players. Now, this challenge was "glitched" for a decent portion of the community but it seems to be unlocking now. If it glitched for you, run through them again with some friends to ease the burden.

Destroyer of Grunts - Kill 100 Grunts. - 1100 XP
Oh, Grunts, the easiest of all enemies to kill. Well, these are the most populous enemies in the first episode, except maybe Crawlers, so getting a hundred kills should not be as much trouble as you might think. You can find Grunts in Chapters One, Two, and Five for Chapter one. Now, the final few kills for me where in the beginning of the fifth Chapter , "Core", so know that Grunts are plentiful, but there are spread out. Generally, you can take them all at distance with a Magnum or any other precision weapons. Replay mission one or two if you need kills.
