Halo Reach: LASO Weekly Challenge Guide: Part 8 – The Package - I

Please follow the blog and follow me on twitter! Have any ideas or comments about the LASO guide or LASO in general? Post them down below!

So, you all getting tired of these LASO challenges yet? Do not worry, you are almost done. The Package is the second to last full mission of the game, followed by The Pillar of Autumn. I do not know what is going to happen with the Lone Wolf level, but I would not be surprised if it finds its way into a challenge with LASO in the name.

But back to the challenge at hand, The Package is actually much easier than you might first assume, but it takes time. The final part of the mission will prove to be the most frustrating, but if you use the level design and vehicles to your advantage, you should be fine. If you need to review any LASO tips and strategies, look here and here.

The Package Walkthrough:
Guess what? You are returning to Swordbase, like it or not. The mission is called a "Torch and Burn" which basically means that you are going to blow up Swordbase, or are you? We shall see. Don't you just love teasers?

So, you start out with a DMR and an AR and immediately before you is the location of the Radio Antenna from ONI: Swordbase. It feature two lovely turrets and a snipers nest and you get to take them all out along with any supporting infantry and vehicles.

Headshot the first turret gunner and sniper from here and the second one from here. Both positions provide ample cover from any return fire.

Once the turrets and sniper are down, begin to take down all the remaining grunts. Quite a few of them have Fuel Rod Guns so be careful. Move up to the farther building once you think it is safe.  Melee any remaining Grunts for the shields. There is a great stack of DMR ammo here.

Now, just two Ghosts should be left. The best way to take out the Ghost is to actually DMR the drivers. Use the building as cover and pump as many shots as you can into them.

Once they are down, get ammo, a choice secondary weapon, and some health.  Approach the Scorpion Tank but avoid the urge to jump straight into it. You need to clear the two Grunts on the floating platform. If not, you will probably get killed while making a run for the Tank. It is not worth it, just kill them first and you should be all set.

Hop into the Scorpion and be warned that immediately to your left there is a turret and another floating platform. After dispatching those, go around the corner and lay waste to all the enemies down the road. Do not get close but just continue to decimate them with the main cannon until it looks like nothing is moving.

Continue on your way but watch out for the two Ghosts around the next turn.  Now, make you way up to the turrets. I personally decided to take out the turrets from a distance just to avoid being pestered by Banshees. You can do whatever works for you, however. Just remember that Banshees are extremely hard to hit without a sight.

Once the first gun explodes, move up the road slowly and dispatch any Jackals or Elites in your path. Be worrisome of the Ghosts as they will wreck you Tank very fast. Do not waste too much time shooting at the Banshees as it is somewhat of a lost cause.

You can either take out the second gun now or later, the choice is yours. I personally chose to move up way past the last gun and clear the area just ahead. I was worried about those three Ghosts attacking after I finished off the last gun, but that was probably not a realistic worry. After you clear the Ghosts and the platform, take out the gun while aiming backwards.

Once the gun is dead, move up to this rock. This idea is to take potshots at the turret and Revenant in front of you and quickly back up before their shots impact.

The strategy work quite well. There is a far turret that is not able to hit you, but you can definitely hit it.  Scoot up some and take out these Grunts with Fuel Rods from as far away as you can.

Do not give them the chance to ruin your day. After they have been dispatched, nail this turret behind the trees before it can put any serious fire onto your tank.

Now there is one last turret that will cause you trouble. Quickly drive up to this rock and use it for cover as you deal with the last turret. All of the turrets shots should hit the rock and you should be able to pound it without any bother.

Once all the turrets are gone, make your way up to Swordbase but be on the lookout for any remaining Revenants. There are three total in this area and just one can give your fits. Drive up to the open door and exit out of your tank. Wave goodbye to the Scorpion because you will not see one again.

Now that you have entered the initial courtyard of Swordbase, try to sneak up the ramp and avoid the attention of the Elites. You have to hope they are distracted by the rest of Noble Team and creep all the way behind them. Once you are behind the Elites, way until you see an opportunity and Beat Down the Covies from behind.  Try not to perform an Assassination because those take a lot longer.

When you can, help the rest of Noble with the remaining enemies so you can go after the turrets. Hide here and you should get a decent shot at the Grunt gunner as the rest of Noble advances into Swordbase.

Head towards the elevator and try not to be too surprised that the elevator is busted.
