The Challenges:
Shield Break! - Kill 250 Jackals. - 8500 XP
The last time we had this challenge it was two-hundred and fifty kills for the same amount of XP. So, this constitutes a bit of an increase. I'll assume they did that on accident. Anyway, I hate Jackals. Well, at least on the higher difficulties as they can kill you in basically two shots if they have Beam Rifles. Ones carrying Needlers are a pain too but are more easily avoided. As well, remember that Jackals with shields can be made vulnerable if you shoot the notch in their shields. Now, none of the "Designer's Choice" chapters really have enough Jackals to sate this challenge but there are some chapters from previous Episodes that do. Namely, I am talking about Episode Seven, Chapter Three. This chapter features almost seventy Jackals. Set the difficulty a little lower and do three solo play-throughs to finish off this challenge.
Got Backup - Get 50 kills with a Secondary Weapon. - 1000 XP
Secondary weapons in Halo 4 include the Magnum Pistol, the Plasma Pistol, and the Bolt Shot. You are only really likely to score kills with the Magnum and Boltshot as the Plasma Pistol will likely just end up getting you killed. If you are on a map with a lot of narrow corridors, the Bolt Shot is best but use the Magnum if you are in more wide open spaces. Now, you just need fifty kills over the day, not in a single game. The best place to get these kills, however, will be in a gametype like SWAT where you can just score easy headshots. If that is your plan, you will want a smaller map like Adrift or Haven, since the Magnum will get raped by a DMR or BR on the larger maps. I would expect this challenge to take about five to seven games of actively trying for these kills to complete. Complete "Raise The Flag" first, however, as you will likely get some while working on it.
Raise The Flag - Win 5 matchmaking Capture the Flag matches. - 2500 XP
So, about two weeks ago, this challenge for the same number of wins was worth five hundred experience points less. Another mistake, 343i? Regardless, Capture the Flag is a gametype where you need a communicative team to help you capture the flag, but also defend you own flag. The one shitty thing about capture the flag is that it often goes down to the time limit with no one getting the required five scores to win it. Most of the maps are simply too big for that. So, one way to speed it up is to pick smaller maps. You will need to venture into the Capture The Flag playlist for this challenge, obviously, but games can also be had in the Castle DLC, Team Doubles, and Team Throwdown playlists.
