Halo Reach: LASO Guide - Part 5: Long Night of Solace - II

See Part I here.

Now you will be assaulting a Covenant ship and using it to deliver the Slip-Space bomb. You will receive significant backup from the UNSC Frigate Savannah and you can use the Frigate to hide yourself while recovering shields and armor. The game will encourage you to attack the engines, but hold off until you have eliminate the ships initial escort, which consists of Banshees and Seraphs.

Some Help.

Once the escort is eliminated, maneuver behind the vessel and pour cannon-fire and missiles into the engines.

Engine Stopped.
Once all four are damaged, another set of Seraphs will appear. Once they are dealt with, fly by the top of the Covenant vessel and you will land upon the ship.

The Landing.

Once you are out of your Sabre, you will see a large force-field floor in front of you. Up from the Comm Center below will fly a jet-pack Elite. Hit him twice with your sword.

Sword Wins.
There are a total of six Elites in this area and, generally, two of them will jump up through the force-field at you. In my playthrough, three did, but I think I simply got lucky. Eventually you will need to jump down to eliminate the remaining Elites.

Schwing!

Personally, I remained on the second floor and used the Drop shield when needed for health. (If you missed the Drop Shield early, get the one right here.) Stay near to the three sets of stairs going up from the bottom floor and use the walls to jump any Elites who come near with the Sword.

Get This If You Need It.

Once the six Elites have been eliminated, a door near will open up and out will come some Grunts and another Elite. This is where I use the Rocket Launcher. Since I am shooting into a corridor, the Covies really have nowhere to run.

Rocket Away.

Once you opponents have been eliminated, go to the bottom center of the room and pick up a fully charged Plasma Pistol and then go above the doorway to get a Needle Rifle. These will be your tools for the rest of the mission, learn to use them well.

The Needle Rifle.

Now, down the corridor and in the hangar is an Engineer. You need to eliminate him and then retreat back down the corridor. Use your Drop Shield at the door to give you some cover and hit the Engineer with two Supercombines to kill it.

Engineers Blow.

After you run back up the corridor, the Grunts will charge at you. Pick them off with the Needle Rifle with much ease.

Hallway of Death.
After a large number of the grunts have been killed, the Elites in the room will start to come for you. There are five total but two of them have Focus Beam Rifles and stay in the back left of the hangar. Use a single overcharge shot from the Plasma Pistol and a few shots from the Needle Rifle to eliminate the Elites.

Overcharged.
When only the two Elites remain, move to this spot in the hangar. From here, you can shoot them but they cannot shoot you.

No Shot.

After both are eliminated, go back to the Comm Area and get a new Plasma Pistol and more Needle Rifle ammo. Hit the switch and let the Pelican in.

First Elite.

After the cut scene you will need to clear out several Grunts and two Ultra Elites from your path. Work the corners and sight lines with your Plasma Pistol on the first Elite and headshot him once the shields are down. The second Elite will often retreat back into the next corridor and alert the other two Elite in the Turret Room. They will not leave that room, however. Hit the Elite with two overcharge shots and then drop him.

Second Elite.
The Turret, or Cannon, Room is one of the most annoying in the game so far.

Your Own Happy Place.

The trick is to jump up here (Thank you Tyrant!) and shoot through these small holes with your Plasma Pistol.

Like a Beer Hole, for Plasma.

Once one Elite is down, you can jump down and finish of the second one via assassination.

From the Top.

Now you must overtake the bridge. This is actually super easy. Creep in and watch the routes of the moving Elites and the position of the other enemies. When you think it is clear, sprint out and "Beat Down," a quick tap of the melee button as opposed to an extended one for an Assassination, the Elites.

Waiting For The Right Moment.

Do not be afraid to pause and wait for an opening. Once you have dropped the last Elite, open up on the Grunts with your Needle Rifle and clear the Bridge. Before hitting the button, go around the room and pick up the Concussion Rifle from the dead Elite General and some Needle Rifle ammo. Hit the button once you are ready.

So Unaware.

Once you do, an Elite and several Grunts and Jackals will enter the Bridge. Eliminate them from a distance.

Party-Crashers!

The Elite will often fall back to the Turret room. Pursue him and he will be at the far edge of the room and at a good position. However, in my playthrough, I went back to the Bridge and then back to the Turret Room and he moved to the other side and gave me an easy chance to eliminate him from behind.

No Chance.

Once you move back into the Turret Room, the door immediately in front of you will open up and another Elite will come out with some Grunts. Take out the smaller enemies but you can use the Concussion Rifle to blast the Elite up the wall and get by him. You simply need to make it to the Pelican.

Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind.

Once you are back into the hangar, we are going to do the Pelican Turret Glitch. Credit for this goes to Tyrant and his Mythic Guide again. Get up to the near side of the Pelican and while crouch walking along it, constantly hit the X-button. Eventually this will transport you into the Pelican Turret. You are completely invulnerable in there and can deal a lot of damage.

Turret Time.

You must enter before the gun is destroyed. If you are in there and then gun is then destroyed, it will still work and then you will be able to finally see what you are shooting.

Turret Shooting...At Nothing In Particular.

After you drop all the waves of Covenant and the final group of four Elites, hop out using the X-button and meet up with Jorge.

Turret Wins.

He will throw you out the airlock and you get to see a nice big boom for your troubles. Congrats on beating Long Night of Solace on SLASO.

Kablooey!
