Three Great\Evil Pranks to Pull on Computer Illiterate Roommates

Follow the blog!

Just about everyone, at one point in their life, has had a roommate.  Whether you actually share the same room or just the same apartment, it is all the same.  And, in every roommate relationship, it will get to a point where you either cannot stand the individual or you will become very close friends.  In both of these instances, it will be an appropriate situation for pranking.  The question you really have to ask yourself is what type of prank is appropriate.
Some people actually thought this thing worked...

The simple answer here is that almost all pranks are appropriate, depending on your personality.  However, you also have to work with what your roommate gives you.  If your roommate is computer illiterate, you can really have some fun.  Especially if they leave their computer logged in.  And here is a list of the five best ones to pull.

Prank 1:
Now, I know most would just think to post some weird, freaky image or gay porn on the desktop, but everyone has done that.  Either way, if they are not particularly tech-savvy or have little patience, you can try this trick.

First, go to their computer.  Close all programs and then push the mouse cursor of screen.  Thirdly, hit the "Print Screen" button on the keyboard.  Now load up MS paint and hit "Ctrl" + "V" to paste the screenshot of the screen.  Save the image and post it as the desktop background.

Can you tell the difference?

Next, right click on the desktop and uncheck "Align to Grid" and "Auto-arrange" in the View menu.  Now drag all the desktop icons of screen.  Next you take care of the Start bar.  With newer Windows OSs this doesn't work as well, but is still doable.  Right click on the Start bar and hit properties.  Uncheck "Lock the taskbar" and check "Auto-hide the taskbar."  Now, to all appearances, the computer screen has the start bar and all the desktop icons, but you can't click any of them.

Prank 2:
Microsoft Word has a tool which automatically replaces specific words with other ones.  It's called AutoCorrect and obviously, this is for error correction.  However, if you go to Word Options, you can input custom autocorrects.  I shouldn't have to explain much more for this one.

Prank 3:
If you have programming experience at all this one is easy too.  Write a simple I/O program and put it on your roommates computer.  Nothing invasive or anything that will go and delete files.  Just something to confuse them and make them worry a little.  Here is a little program I wrote that you can use (and here is the code for any programmers who want to compile it themselves).

Now you right click on the icon for their internet browser and hit properties.  Change the target location to the executable file and, Voila!

How dare you insult the United Maldovian Nation and only have missionary sex?
